Interior Systems Mechanic
As an interior systems mechanic, you’ll frame interior walls and install window frames, doors, partitions and computer floors. Your expertise extends to hanging drywall, T-bar ceilings and suspended ceilings, ensuring precise installation across diverse settings. You’ll usually work indoors on new construction, renovation and repair projects.

Typical responsibilities
- Use architectural blueprints to lay out walls and ceilings for a project
- Assemble interior and exterior walls, ceilings and partitions
- Install pressed-steel door and window frames
- Insulate walls for acoustic or thermal conditions
- Involved in ceiling work variations such as T-bar and intricate ceilings
- Install computer access flooring

Math
Math is used across the skilled trades. You may work with decimals, fractions, measurements, conversions, area and volume to plan work, calculate materials, monitor operations and troubleshoot.
Reading
Strong reading skills help you work safely and effectively on the job. You’ll use them to understand instructions, equipment manuals, safety information, drawings and other technical information.
Science
Basic science principles help you understand how things work and how materials behave. Across the trades, this can include concepts like electricity, heat, force, pressure and the properties of different materials.
