Project Background
This project involves investigating learning disability supports for pre-apprentice and apprentice success through development of an enhanced model and integration and testing of various tools that support at-risk apprentices.
The project leverages SkillPlan’s federally funded projects and alliances across the unionized construction industry and post-secondary institutions in Canada to pilot test these tools within SkillPlan’s national technology platform and to identify and support pre-apprentices or apprentices with learning disabilities.

Project Objectives
Working in partnership with trainers and industry experts across Canada, we developed training tools and resources to support pre-apprentices and apprentices, trainers and employers across all skilled trades. Here are some of our project outputs.

Investigate
Investigate learning differences/disability supportive models and integrate learning differences screening tools to further identify and support pre-apprentices and/or apprentices with learning needs.

Expand
Expand and enhance the use of best practices in Skills for Success and learning disability instruction, program design and professional development in trades training and apprenticeship pathways.

Evaluate
Evaluate the integration of the various project tools and resources, assessments and tutoring supports for at-risk pre-apprentices and union apprentices to inform and contribute to the model on a larger scale.
