Preparing for the Boilermaker Trade provides practice with three Essential Skills: Reading, Document Use and Numeracy. The publication is divided into three sections:

  1. Section 1 reviews math foundations including fractions, decimals, ratio/proportion, geometry and Pythagorean Theorem.
  2. Section 2 provides a strategy and practice for solving word problems.
  3. Section 3 has problem sets which reflect the technical training requirements of apprentices. An answer key is provided at the end of each section.

This publication does not require specific background knowledge about the boilermaker trade. This publication will help individuals prepare for writing Boilermaker Trade Assessments. It is also appropriate for individuals who want to practice their Essential Skills while preparing for technical training in one of the construction trades. Individuals who are thinking about apprenticeship in the construction industry will learn about some of the Reading, Document Use and Numeracy skills required by apprentices in construction trades.
