Mentorship in Technical Training
Technical training instructors can play an important role in contributing to the success of apprentice-mentor relationships. This workshop will show how you can integrate mentorship into your instruction so that apprentices will be better learners and future mentors.
Teach apprentices strategies for becoming successful learners in the classroom and on the jobsite.
Teach apprentices about their responsibility to share what they know with less experienced workers by using a mentoring strategy.
Document Use in Technical Training
Technical training involves reading many documents with complex information. In this workshop, you will get a better understanding of how document complexity can challenge an apprentice’s ability to succeed at training. Topics covered:
Understanding drawings, schematics, labels, lists, tables, flow charts and entry forms
Developing document reading skills.
Understanding document complexity.
This workshop aims to give you tips on teaching Document Use. It is not a workshop on how to design documents.
Using Technology in the Classroom
Learn how you can use PowerPoint presentations to enhance your lessons and engage your apprentices.
Design slides that complement the content from technical manuals.
Create effective slides with content that engages your learners.
Use animation techniques that demonstrate your teaching points.
Add video clips that show how something is done, or add variety with a “guest speaker” from a safety video.
Learn the do’s and don’ts of making handouts for your PowerPoint slides.

Applying Essential Skills to Technical Training
Description: Designed for technical training instructors, this course will help instructors gain an understanding of their apprentices Essential Skills levels and how this applies to technical training. Activities provide instructional ideas on how to address skills gaps and improve the ability of apprentices to succeed in their apprenticeship.

Developing Worksheets for Technical Training
Description: This course will show instructors how to build worksheets to optimize learning opportunities for apprentices. Instructional ideas include how to use examples and answer steps to teach apprentices strategies for solving numeracy problems, and how to teach apprentices about document structure so they understand how to locate information in drawings, tables, and diagrams. Worksheets designed by instructors from various construction trades are included as examples.
