We work with technical training plans, institutions, and Aboriginal groups to develop workforce materials that improve the Essential Skills of current or potential workers in the construction industry. Highlights of some of our current and past projects are listed here.
Boilermaker Contractor’s Association
Developed a boilermakers prep guide and assessment for those considering a career as a boilermaker, and a boilermakers study guide for those preparing for exams they will write during technical training, such as the Red Seal exam.
Buildforce Canada (Formerly Construction Sector Council)
Designed and developed resources for technical instructors which include a series of technical training materials, instructor’s guide, and online courses and workshops on how to design technical training worksheets with an Essential Skills focus. www.constructionessentialskills.ca
Carpenters Training Centre of New Brunswick Inc.
Developed a carpenter training assessment that practices reading and numeracy skills for those with a career goal in carpentry.
District Council 38 of the International Union Painters and Allied Trades
Finishing Trades Institute International
Development of prep guides and assessments for glaziers and painters.
Electrical Joint Training Committee
Project with EJTC instructors and content experts which customized SkillPlan’s mentorship program for EJTC to deliver workshops to beginning and experienced apprentices, and developed workbooks to supplement the workshops. The program is titled Mentorship Matters.
Heat and Frost Insulators Union Local 118
Designed an entrance assessment for those wanting to enter apprenticeship. Developed an insulator specific mathbook and an Asbestos Abatement workshop.
International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 2 BC
Developed a technical training prep guide for those preparing for technical training as a bricklayer.
International Union of Operating Engineers Local 115
Development of a heavy equipment operators prep guide and assessment. Also developed a rigger’s pocket guide.
Ironworkers Local 97
Design and development of an ironworkers prep guide and assessment.
Ontario Masonry Training Centre
Developed numeracy worksheets as part of an online resource for masons.
Designed and delivered an Essential Skills program for Aboriginal learners entering the piping trades. Focused on improving the reading and numeracy levels of participants while using authentic materials from the piping trades and technical training. Aboriginal and non‑Aboriginal guest speakers provided insight into the trade.
Musqueam First Nation
Designed and delivered an Essential Skills program that includes a life skills component for Aboriginals entering a career in the carpentry trades. Focused on improving reading and numeracy skills of participants while using authentic industry materials. Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal guest speakers provided insight into the trade.
Aboriginal Skills Group (Formerly VanAsep)
Designed a customized entrance exam for carpenters and provided information for career counselors advising on careers in the trades.
Workplace materials development, job profiling, and program design training to build sustainability of Essential Skills programs and training within the community.
